Often companies want to keep up with the competition and maybe this data could be used to to form a ‘ranking’ of where they sit against the competition – this could be used to estimate a timescale of how long it could take to catch up for example.
It’s purely quant data in your example. Does it ever include qualitative analysis? If so… How do you ensure that it is unbiased and not just your subjective opinion?
Leadership often want to keep up, can competitor research lead to confirmation bias that copying a feature is a good idea, even though it’s no good for users? How could you mitigate against that?
Sorry, some difficult questions there but I have always struggled with making this technique useful against poor stakeholder decisions and would be keen to hear your thoughts!
